Maths fail

a = b
a^2  = ab
a^2-b^2 = ab - b^2
(a+b)(a-b)  = b(a-b)
a+b = b
2b = b
2 = 1

Houston we have a problem.

 I divided by zero!

  7. @Layman Researcher: Yes, that's how equations work.
    Still, you can't have one single answer when you had a quadratic equation in some point.

  9. It's something with how they factor which is incorrect. I remember this problem in Adv Algebra.

  12. a = b
    a^2 = ab
    a^2-b^2 = ab - b^2
    (a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b) --- aa-ab+ba-bb = ba-bb
    a+b = b
    2b = b
    2 = 1

  17. yes, it's the division by zero that breaks the algebra.

  18. Divide by zero, and you will get the complete answer ^^

  19. My math teacher fooled our entire class for over half an hour, before he told us what the 'trick' to this equation was. :D
